Criminal hackers
Criminals are targeting everyone (which includes you.) They release bots and crawlers on the internet which look for access to anyone or anything. Once in there they look for weaknesses to exploit and information to steal.
Listeners
On the internet anything you send, such as texts or e-mails, is in ‘plaintext’, i.e., is not encrypted. Anyone who wants can listen on the lines, capturing and reading your messages. (Sites using HTTPS attempt to give some protection by encrypting message when in transit between sites.)
Government Agencies
Government agencies, like the NSA, capture all transmitted messages: telephone calls, emails, texts storing it in giant data silos for future use. They can do this because storage has become huge and extremely cheap. Once any of these groups has captured data from you, they have AI programs which scan that data looking for anything that could be used against you from their point of view. Either to gain money or influence over you, or even just to destroy your reputation.
You must assume that anything you put on an electronic device will become public knowledge.
Do not talk about anything you wish to keep private about yourself.
